Attachment 1 -InSiGHT Secretary's Report 2007
The two years since the meeting in Newcastle has seen:
- Planning for the current meeting in Japan, through our Chairman Takeo Iwama. The Yokohama meeting has been expertly organised and a great success.
- Financial stability under the expert guidance of the Honorary Treasurer Steffen Bülow
- Council meetings in London principally for planning this meeting, in: February 2006 attended by: Takeo Iwama, John Burn, Steffen Bülow, Malcolm Dunlop, Annika Lindblom, Patrick Lynch, Finlay Macrae, Gabriela Moeslein, Kay Neale, Miguel Rodriguez Bigas, Allan Spigelman and Ian Tomlinsonand in:November 2006 attended by: Takeo Iwama, John Burn, Steffen Bülow, Annika Lindblom, Patrick Lynch, Finlay Macrae, Gabriela Moeslein, Kay Neale, Robin Phillips, Miguel Rodriguez Bigas, Allan Spigelman and Hans Vasen.
It should be noted that Councillors attend these meetings at their own expense, signalling their commitment to the aims of InSiGHT. - Further cooperative research projects drawing on the interdisciplinary expertise within the membership
- Membership status: there are currently 111 members of InSiGHT.
Council has considered at length ways to increase membership, with the aim of achieving sustained viability of the organization. The website represents one of the main advantages of membership, as well as access at a reduced price to the biennial meetings. Membership is encouraged, as it would not be possible to function as an organization without the subscriptions. Most of us think it is a very valuable organization globally and within the context of our working lives.
We are continually grateful for the efforts of the secretariat in London (Kay Neale and Belynda Muir) and in Leiden (Mary Velthuizen) and executive members Robin Phillips and Hans Vasen who guide us with their experience. Mary continues, with Paivi Peltomaki, to keep the InSiGHT mutation database up to date with important information for the membership.
